The Kugels are coming – here’s your chance to bring two friends for free
In just over a week we will welcome New Zealand’s best klezmer band, The Kugels, to the Hawea Flat Hall for a one-off show.
The band features three former members of the New Zealand Symphony Orchestra, as well as top New Zealand composer and Arts Laureate Ross Harris. Klezmer was originally played at weddings and other celebrations in Eastern and Central Europe – you’ll laugh, you’ll cry, and you might even dance.
We have two free tickets to give away for the show – head over to the ‘Win Stuff’ section on the Wanaka App before midnight on Sunday to enter.
When: Saturday September 7 @ 7pm
Where: Hawea Flat Hall (Cnr Camphill Road and St Ninians Way, Hawea Flat)
Tickets: $30 adults / $20 students – tickets from the Festival of Colour website HERE.
Get rid of your bread tags, for good
We’ll be supporting ‘Bread tags for wheelchairs’ at The Kugels’ show. We’ll have a jar set up at the Hawea Flat Hall so you can drop off those pesky plastic tags attached to your bread, pikelets, bagels, as well as potatoes and other vegetables.
They are made of a special plastic that can be recycled in South Africa and made into seedling trays – the profits from sales of the tray go to buy wheelchairs. It takes 200kg to raise enough funds to buy one wheelchair, so bring us all the tags you have.
We are also thrilled to be supporting an extraordinary new play, Mr Red Light, in coming to Wanaka in October.
Mr Red Light is a man who attracts bad luck. So naturally, when he tries to rob a bank he fails miserably – and ends up in a pie shop dealing with three very uncooperative hostages and the world’s worst police negotiator. As time ticks by, Mr Red Light and his captives play a game of getting to know you – and mysteriously, Mr Red Light seems to know more about his hostages’ lives than is possible.
theatre company have a chat about Mr Red Light on Radio NZ’s ‘Standing Room Only’.
