We thought we’d bring Christmas forward a few days and offer you a little peak at the 2015 programme…Ho Ho Ho!
We’re excited to announce that we’ll be bringing a circus performance to the Central Lakes Trust Crystal Palace (for the first time) and also the premiere of an intimate theatre piece which will be staged in a local café.
The opening night of the festival will feature two performances of ‘Knee Deep’ by the internationally renowned Casus Circus. The four-person troupe from Brisbane explores the boundaries of human strength and fragility during the hour-long show, testing their bodies to the limit with thrilling physicality.
Knee Deep has been a huge hit with audiences around the world. The Guardian newspaper in the UK described its Edinburgh Festival performance as “full of extraordinary skill and brute strength… awe-inspiring”.
Our theatre premiere, Café follows two previous ‘fly on the wall’ productions at the Festival of Colour, Hotel (2011) and Salon (2013) with the audience observing the drama unfold in intimate detail.
Festival Director, Philip Tremewan said the play would be set in Wanaka’s Federal Diner on Helwick Street.
“This exciting work is still in development so we’re keeping details under wraps but suffice to say it will dip into the caffeine-fuelled lives of staff and customers. There’ll be several shows on each day of the festival before it tours around New Zealand,” he said.
Both are sure to be festival highlights!
It’s almost time to pack up shop and enjoy the Christmas holidays!
We’re in and out of the office over the festival break but will return on 5 January when all focus will be on launching the programme on 12 February 2015. Don’t forget to diary date 23 February 2015 when public ticket sales start.
The festival would like to once again thank everyone for their support over the last few months and wish you all a very Merry Christmas and happy New Year.
Look forward to seeing you in 2015,
The Festival Team
