Latest News : Festival Update - Spring 2009

The Festival of Colour has a new permanent home in Wanaka, in Helard House at the bottom of Helwick Street (follow the signs for Art Upstairs). The office is open most mornings, so if you are in Wanaka then please pop in to say hello. If anyone has any spare office furniture they would like to donate then please get in touch with Lindsey. We need desks and a bookcase, so if you are having a spring clean or refurbishing your office then please call (03) 443 4172.

350.org - Bill McKibben

The Festival of Colour brought Bill McKibben to Wanaka to talk about global warming and he challenged his audiences to help focus attention on the issues. Here are three of the Festival trustees (Dennis Schwarz, Nick Brown (Chair) and Jan Johnston) with their message of support.

Another way of supporting is to join Mount Aspiring College and their contribution to the 350.0rg project.

Tree Planting Afternoon at Mount Aspiring College: invitation to parents and community
Friday 23rd October, 2:00pm – 3:30pm

Mount Aspiring College have been working hard on a tree planting project in support of 350.org in schools. They hope to have at least 100 trees to plant and are offering parents and community the opportunity to contribute to the project.

You can help out in 2 ways:

  1. Donate a tree for the planting – see list of trees below, native and orchard trees have been selected as they are appropriate to the climate and terrain.  Please drop off your tree to MAC before 23rd October.
  2. Help out on the day – come to Mount Aspiring College at 1:45 on Friday afternoon. Look for Sophie, Simon or Ivy who will register you and show you where to go.  Please bring a shovel, a bucket and a tree to plant. If you cannot afford to donate a tree helping hands are needed also.

NATIVES TREES: Kowhai, Mountain beech, Red beech, Broadleaf, Manuka, Kanuka

ORCHARD TREES: Pear, Apple, Plum, Peach (local)

Each whanau at the school will have responsibility for caring for the trees once they are planted.

Thanks to Te Kakano Trust, John May, Eco Wanaka Adventures and Wanaka Garden Club for their generous support.
