MAJOR GRANTS ON BOARD TO SUPPORT THE FESTIVAL OF COLOUR, PLUS FREE TICKETS TO SEE THE NBR NEW ZEALAND OPERA'S PRODUCTION OF HANSEL AND GRETEL.

Creative New Zealand have given the Festival of Colour a massive thumbs up with the news that they will support the Festival with a $70,000 grant to showcase the best of New Zealand talent. This is a great boost to funds and joins those grants already approved by Central Lakes Trust and the Community Trust of Otago. These 3 bodies form the cornerstone of our grants funding and we are grateful for their support.
Private sponsors have also confirmed their support with Infinity, Aurora Energy, Lake Wanaka Tourism, Radio Wanaka and Wanaka Hotel all confirming that they will be involved with the Festival of Colour in 2009. If you would like further information on how your business can support the Festival then please contact Lindsey Schofield in the Festival office Lindsey@festivalofcolour.co.nz.
WIN A DOUBLE PASS TO HANSEL AND GRETEL
The Festival of Colour is keen to promote the arts in all forms and so we have a double pass, plus complimentary programme, to give away to the 28th July performance of Hansel and Gretel.
The NBR New Zealand Opera will be performing Hansel and Gretel at the Lake Wanaka Centre on 28th and 29th July at 7.30pm.
Enjoy a magical evening of dew fairies and sandmen, dark forests and witches, as we follow Hansel and Gretel along the overgrown path from childhood innocence to adult awareness.
Engelbert Humperdinck’s immortal Hansel and Gretel will see the long-awaited opera directing debut of Michael Hurst. Playing the roles of both Witch and Mother is acclaimed mezzo-soprano Helen Medlyn. Two rising stars, soprano Ana James and mezzo-soprano Anna Pierard, play Gretel and Hansel respectively. Tecwyn Evans, who has worked with many of the great British opera companies and festivals over the past decade, will conduct - accompanied by an ensemble of players from the Christchurch Symphony Orchestra.
This new production is sung in English, and in a commitment to showcasing New Zealand talent, boasts an entirely New Zealand cast and creative team.
