Grahame Sydney is Central Otago's iconic artist. His painted landscapes shape the way we all see these remote hills. This passion for his home province now takes him to movie film. In this documentary, we look through his eyes at this beautiful, little-known landscape hardly changed since the 1860s, and the discovery of a ‘wasteland’ interior we now know as Central Otago. The Old Dunstan Road also winds back into history and the rush to the Dunstan Goldfields.

Grahame first shifted from oils and water colours to photography for his residencies in Antarctica where painting proved physically impossible. In Dreaming of El Dorado, he uses the video camera as a moving paint brush across the screen.
