Due to popular demand we have added in an extra night of the hit Auckland Theatre Company production. ‘On the Upside Down of the World’ sold out it’s first three shows at Luggate Hall in the first week of public sales. We have added in a fourth night on Friday 19 April 2013 at 7pm at Luggate Hall. Tickets $38.
“This show really seems to have captured the attention of people, and I think our audience really appreciates having such top quality theatre in our local community halls. We are delighted to be able to present another night of this terrific play” said Festival of Colour GM Lindsey Schofield.
This outstanding one woman show has won Laurel Devenie critical acclaim. The play is based on the journals of Lady Ann Martin, the young wife of our first Chief Justice who arrived in New Zealand in 1841. They set up home in Auckland. Intrepid, intelligent and possessing a great sense of humour, she disregarded her personal disability and set about learning Maori. She establised a make-shift hospital, tutored Maori school students and dared to dream of what was possible in this brave new world.
National Business Review said that ‘Devenie’s performance is one of the best of the year”.
Lynn Freeman said ” Devenie is enchanting and captivating, her focus never waivers, nor does our delight in her performance”.
